Slaying Drama: A Drag Artist's Guide to Handling Petty Entertainers

Hey there fellow entertainers, artists, and creators! Today, let’s chat about handling the petty moments in our industry with grace and style. We all know that drag can sometimes feel like a high school cafeteria, but with the right mindset and some chill vibes, you can breeze through any drama storm unscathed. I’m here today to talk about how we can slay in our craft and avoid throwing and receiving malicious shade. As drag artists, we know a thing or two about serving looks, but when it comes to dealing with petty entertainers, it's all about serving sass with class. Even when it’s difficult, wear your crown with pride and hold your head high, because you’re not only a professional, you’re royalty.

1. Werk It, Don't Sweat It

First things first, don't let the shade get you down. We're here to shine bright like the fabulous diamonds we are, not get bogged down in petty drama. When those haters try to rain on your parade, remember: you're a star, and only your mindset can dim your sparkle, touchup the glitter on your cheeks and disregard the haters. It's easy to get caught up in the drama, but remember, you’re here to do what you love, not to participate in a reality TV show. Take a deep breath, count to ten, and remind yourself of your goals.

2. Serve Face, Serve Talent

When the drama starts swirling, channel that energy into your art. Whether you're painting for the gods, lip-syncing for your life, or strutting your stuff on the runway, let your talent speak for itself. Your best response is to double down on your craft. Pour your energy into your work, whether that’s perfecting your performance, refining your skills, or brainstorming new creative ideas. Channel that frustration into productivity and watch your art flourish. Show the world what you're made of and leave those petty entertainers gagging in your fabulous wake.

3. Find Your People

In this cutthroat world of entertainment, it's important to surround yourself with fellow kings, queens, and NB royalty who lift you up, not tear you down. Seek out your circle – the ones who understand the struggles and triumphs of the drag life – and hold them close.. Surround yourself with people who lift you up, not bring you down. Seek out fellow entertainers who share your values and passions. A supportive network can be your lifeline in times of drama, offering advice, encouragement, and maybe even a shoulder to lean on. Most of my circle is my drag family, and I don’t know if I would have been able to get through the shady parts of this scene without them. I have also found quite a bit of support on a facebook page called “Drag Kings Unite”. Together with your people, you can conquer anything, from shady kings to drama queens.

4. Keep It Regal

When faced with drama, always remember to keep it regal. Don't stoop to the level of those petty entertainers by engaging in petty behavior or spreading rumors. Hold your head high, wear your crown with pride, and let your elegance be your shield against the drama storm. Remember that you’re in control of your own narrative. Don’t try to fit in with the bullies or feel included by engaging in drama or spreading gossip. Rise above it all with class and dignity. Your reputation will thank you in the long run.

5. Laugh It Off, Sis

Sometimes, the best response to drama is a good old-fashioned cackle. Find the humor in the absurdity of it all and let those haters know that their shade ain't got nothin' on you. After all, your royal laughter is the best revenge. Humor is a powerful tool for diffusing tension and keeping things in perspective. The next time you find yourself embroiled in petty drama, take a step back and find something about the situation to laugh at. Trust me, it’s there.

6. Treat Yo' Self

Last but certainly not least, don't forget to pamper yourself. Being a drag artist is hard work, and you deserve to treat yourself like the royalty you are. Make self-care a priority, whether it's a luxurious bubble bath, a fierce new wig, or a night out on the town with your fellow performers, make self-care a priority. You deserve it! Entertaining can be emotionally draining… especially when drama rears its ugly head. A well-rested, rejuvenated entertainer is better equipped to handle whatever comes their way.

In conclusion, slaying drama and handling petty entertainers is all about staying true to yourself and embracing your inner diva. Keep it fierce, keep it fabulous, and remember: you're ROYALTY, and ain't nobody gonna steal your crown. Now go forth and conquer the stage, my fierce drag siblings!
